Sharpening Lathe Chisels
Dull chisels will not only result in inferior work, they may very well hurt you when so
dull, they get flipped by the project stock. When sharpening, never let the tip of the
chisel heat up. Once the temper is gone, the logevity of the edge is as well. Stick to
the original geometry of the chisel unless you have a proven reason to change it.
Some turners wear face shields which isn't a bad idea. Learn turning patiently and
safely. Learn sharpening the same way.
Some of the geometry of this older
set of chisels was altered from valid
information I found. I changed it back.
A slow wet process is best for
sharpening. Some very experienced
turners have perfected other ways.
Repeated geometry can't always be
achieved without chisel heel nests.
